Enabling Deeper Medication Adherence Insights to Guide Us towards Better Healthcare Experiences

PatchRx has officially announced the launch of PatchRx Connect, which is a solution designed to fetch medication adherence data directly into the unified care management suite. According to certain reports, the stated solution basically makes it possible for clinician teams to gain real-time insight into patients’ medication-taking behaviors, and it does that all without disrupting existing workflows or impacting patient experience. In order to understand the significance of such a development, though, we first need to acknowledge how there are, as of today, more than 131 million people, loosely translating to 66 percent of all adults in the US, who take prescription medications. However, despite that, it remains a challenge to assess the effectiveness of a prescribed treatment, considering we still don’t have a mechanism to get the required insight into a patient’s actual medication-taking patterns. This is where PatchRx Connect comes in to help clinicians better evaluate a patient’s response to treatment, individualize their approach to care, and intervene early to prevent adverse health outcomes associated with non-adherence. Talk about the whole value proposition on a slightly deeper level, we begin from its universally-fit small pill bottle cap called PatchCap which is well-equipped to track medication-taking behaviors in a rather smooth fashion. Next up, we have PatchRx Connect Gateway. PatchRx Connect Gateway is basically tasked with streaming data securely via cellular to the PatchRx web app and API. This it is able to without ever calling for a WiFi connection or any mobile app support.

“Requiring clinicians to juggle disparate, non-integrated web apps and platforms with various data sources is inefficient in providing great patient care. By combining patient information and feedback sources into singular, unified care platforms we’re providing clinicians the ability to assess a patient holistically and take action faster,” said Andrew Aertker, PatchRx co-founder and CEO. “The launch of PatchRx Connect is a significant step toward this vision of more efficient patient care, opening up a pathway for providers and other software companies to utilize our medication adherence insights directly within their platforms and existing workflows.”

Moving on to PatchRx Connect API, it has a large part of its utility rooted in enabling providers to view the received data, metrics, and trends in their own managed care software systems via HIPAA-compliant integration. Hold on, we still have a few bits left to unpack. You see, we still haven’t discussed the new solution’s PatchRx Web App. This one brings forth an out-of-the-box interface to view received data, metrics, and trends, thus forming a combo which can be used as a standalone, or if not that, users can also leverage it in conjunction with the API. Joining the same would be patient SMS alerts that are meant to serve as reminders, and even updates, from care managers. Rounding up highlights would be the prospect of remote enrollment, a prospect which is largely supported by PatchRx’s integrated DTC shipment capabilities.

Enabling the company to serve stakeholders like care management platforms, EMRs, and health systems, the development in question delivers a rather interesting follow-up to PatchRx’s recent partnership with Harris Healthcare, a long-time technology innovator, and DrFirst, a pioneer in healthcare IT systems used by 350,000 providers nationwide.
